Lexington is the county seat of Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. According to the 2010 census, the city had a population of 18,931. It is located in central North Carolina, 20 miles (32 km) south of Winston-Salem. Major highways include I-85, I-85B, U.S. Route 29, US Route 70, US Route 52/I-285 and U.S. Route 6 . Lexington is part of the Piedmont Triad region of the state. According to US News and World Report, Lexington is one of the top four barbecue joints in America. The city calls itself the “barbecue capital of the world”. Lexington, Thomasville, and the surrounding countryside are slowly developing into residential bedrooms to displace cities such as Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point and, to a lesser extent, Charlotte and its northeastern suburbs.

There are many cultural activities to choose from – and you can enjoy them in a city that is not as densely populated as other popular vacation spots in the United States. Calling all wine lovers! Richard Childress Vineyard, or commonly known as Childress Vineyard, is the largest winery in the Yadkin Valley (established in 2002). In this beautiful vineyard you will find their land of red clay, stone and sandstone, rolling hills. There are three things you need to know about Richard Childress Vineyards. First, they have a variety of top wines including: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Viognier, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Second, 90% of Tasting Room wines are made from grapes grown on two different estates. Third, one acre of this vineyard typically produces tons of grapes, which translates to 660 gallons or 3,300 bottles of wine—so you never run out of wine. Bob Timberlake, American realist artist known for his watercolor paintings and finely crafted home furnishings. Her designs are inspired by 18th century artisans and give elegance and quality to every stroke. The Bob Timberlake Gallery and Museum is a three-in-one gallery, retail store and museum. Her gallery also features her original artwork, reproductions and personal memorabilia, a home decor collection, and even clothing! Any vintage junkie or art lover is sure to find an enjoyable afternoon at this gallery – so make sure it’s part of your Lexington itinerary.



Rumor has it that Daniel Boone himself and his family lived in this cave for a year to hide from wandering Indians. However, archaeologists have not been able to confirm whether he actually lived there – however, Boone Cave Park is a tourist attraction due to its historical significance and eerie aura. This park has a 6-mile (9.65 km) hiking trail, fishing and camping opportunities, and the famous cottonwood tree, the third largest in the state. It is 169 feet (51.5 m) long, over 16 feet ( 4.8 m) around the hull, and has a canopy width of 109 feet (33.2 m). Although famous for its historical significance, Boone Cave Park is also a great getaway for nature lovers. The North Carolina Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors the 1,620 dead and missing North Carolinians and 216,000 North Carolina soldiers who fought during the Vietnam War. The middle panel on the front of the monument shows the names of the dead and the missing. Guests and visitors are directed to the monument through the park. Finally, the evergreen trees you see symbolize the eternal memory of the bravery of those who fought during this war 58,000 seeds were planted for the 58,000 Americans who lost their lives in the conflict. Old Courthouse A standout among North Carolina’s antebellum buildings, the Davidson County Historical Museum is one of the only historic buildings in the area open to the public. This museum offers and contains a permanent collection that highlights the natural and cultural history of Davidson County, local artifacts, photographs, and archival materials. The museum has two floors. The first floor has a diorama called Lexington: The County Seat Comes of Age, Davidson Room and Gift Shop. On the second floor you can see the judge’s bench, the jury box and the prison cage. Another one for vintage junkies. Mainstreet Antique & Design Gallery is a shop that is sure to satisfy your vintage cravings. This store and gallery consists of hundreds of vendors displaying a variety of antiques, vintage items, art, clothing, jewelry, accessories and custom upholstery! Main St. Antiques and Design Gallery is an antique in itself, and with different vendors every day, you’ll see different items and pieces regularly. Mainsreet Antiques is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.



If you are a movie buff or a supporter of independent films, you must visit /perture. Founded in 2010, A/perture Cinema, which was just a small two-room art building, now has 3 screening rooms and offers over 4,000 film screenings and events a year. The main focus is to present independent, foreign, documentary and local and festival films. Imagine showing all the best films, both local and international, in this joyful community! Even better, you can buy your ticket online from their website (listed below), so you don’t have to worry about long lines. A staple of the Badin or Albemarle area, the Badin Road Drive-in Theater has been in business since the mid-1950s. It has the latest movies in theaters and can accommodate up to 400 cars. It’s best for a first date, a night out with friends, or even family. Gates open at 6:30pm and the movie starts after dark. The ride is also open on Sundays. Adventures are best spent when you just let the day go, spending it with your closest friends or family and really discovering what a place has to offer. Lexington is the place to be if you want to hop from place to place; from exploring a cave to visiting art galleries, enjoying good wine and watching movies indoors or outdoors!
